This is a hand-carved granary door from Africa, made by the Cameroon craftsmen. The door is made of wood and consists of two panels held together in its center by iron bands.
The panels are relief carved with two inter wining crocodiles filled with detailed carved decorations resembling scales, they are surrounded by a diamond pattern border. It has pegs on the left side top and bottom for its function.
This piece was originally carved for storing and accessing the granaries in which the Cameroon people store their grains. The crocodile figures are meant to protect the grains inside against the mold, insects and other threats
